Index Super Speciality Hospital has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully performing an extremely challenging revision hip replacement surgery. The patient, a labourer from Dewas district, had undergone a primary hip replacement two years ago in another hospital. However, after falling from a roof, the implant broke again, leaving him completely unable to walk or work. Private hospitals had estimated the cost of this complex revision surgery at around ₹10–12 lakh, an amount far beyond the patient’s capacity. In this critical situation, the expert team at Index Hospital provided complete treatment free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, giving the patient a new lease on life.
The surgery was performed under the leadership of Joint Replacement Surgeon Retd. Lt. Col. Dr. Ajay Singh Thakur, with a specialised implant sourced from Mumbai for this highly complex procedure. The dedicated team—Dr. Raunak Dagliya, Dr. Zainul, Dr. Avdhesh Bhadoriya, Dr. Aishwarya Mahajan and Dr. Vinay Dubey—played a vital role in ensuring the surgery’s success. This revision procedure, considered extremely challenging even for senior orthopedic experts, often costs more than ₹1 crore in countries like the United States. Index Hospital not only completed the surgery successfully but did so entirely free of cost. Index Group Chairman Shri Suresh Singh Bhadoria and Vice Chairman Mayankraj Singh Bhadoria praised the medical team, calling this achievement a proud moment for the institution.
This successful surgery has restored the patient’s ability to walk normally after one-and-a-half months of immobility and has set a new clinical benchmark for postgraduate medical students. The need for revision joint replacement surgeries in India is rapidly increasing as older implants begin to loosen or wear out. These procedures require advanced skills, precision, and specialised training. Index Super Speciality Hospital is also preparing to introduce robotic joint replacement surgeries, further elevating the standard of orthopedic care. Patients with hip or joint implants are advised to avoid sitting on the floor with folded legs, refrain from excessive exercise, and maintain regular follow-ups to ensure implant longevity and achieve the best possible outcomes.
